Sand Martin







Sand martins (Riparia riparia ) breed in coast around Sapporo.






They nest at hollows of sand cliffs on sanddunes.

Grey Starling's breeding nest




Grey starling (Sturnus cineraceus) bred in front of my institute.








Parents brought food for their chicks.








Crows took sight of starling chicks, and parents mobbed them.

Long-clawed Shrew













I challenged Long-clawed Shrew(Sorex unguiculatus).


It's so difficult to take photos of shrew because of its agility.









Characteristic mark of this shrew is its long-claw.
It digs and makes tunnel system.
In Hokkaido, moles are not distribute, so this species occupies subterranean niche.

Brown Shrike




Brown Shrike comes to Yuhutsu moor in Summer.



It fly-caught flying moth.

White-tailed Sea-eagle

It is seemed that one pair of White-tailed Sea-eagle breed in Yuhutsu moor, Tomakomai.


I found three eagles (two adults and one young) at one time.





I succeeded to take photos of young one.

Alien Pheasant, Common Pheasant, lives in Hokkaido.

Female Common Peasant, Tomakomai, Hokkaido.

She had less wariness, and came close to me.

Ishikari River

The mouse of Ishikari River has a wet garassland.
In present season, many glassland birds come to this place.

Reed occupies this grassland (the small bird is a Common Reed Bunting).

Today, I could take photos of Schrenk's Reed Warblers.

Nesting an alien swan

Mute swan (Cygnus olor) is an alien species in Japan.
Pare of this species is building nest now in Utonai Lake.
Besides, a bird being next to nesting swan is Bean goose. It injured and stayed in here.
