Morning

I went birding only morning last Saturday.

Red Squirrel.

Summer visitors came to Sapporo.
In this time, I only took photo of only Short-tailed Bush Warbler.

Surprisingly, Brown-eared Bulbul caught a cicada. I was aware cicadas already emerged they will sing in a few days. Summer is comming, though it is still cold.

Intra family competition

I found a Chipmunk in Maruyama park, Sapporo. Did it recover its hibernation in this season?

Chase

I found chasing of two Squirrels.

They repeated chasing on a pine tree. I wonder they are male and female, it is preparation of mating.

Other birds in Tokachi

This day, my friend organize sea bird research in Tokachi, but it was canceled because of bad weather. So I wandered around Tokachi to see birds.

Japanese Crane breed in yard of farmer's garden. It is said that "Every farmer has a pair of Japanese Crane in Eastern Hokkaido."
This photo is a juvenile born in this season.

A Harbor Seal and a fisherman.
Fundamentally, Harbor Seal has very cautious for human, but this individual is very tame to human. I uploaded previous entry.






I moved to other spot of birds.
A Squirrel greet me.

In this site, I found a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker.
I saw it six year ago. It was my pleasure.

Morning in TOEF

I got up early and walked around Tomakomai Experimental Forest.

Common Kingfisher.

Hokkaido Squirrel (sub-species of Eurasian Red Squirrel) didn't change its fur yet.


Male Mallard's is changing its plumage  non-breed to breed plumage now.

Prepare for winter


Red Squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris orientis) collects acorn.


And It hides their acorn under the litter.

Siberian flying squirrel

Two Siberian flying squirrels (Pteromys volans) were in a bird house which was built for bird reproduction research.

Later, we observed them go out from the nest.

Their eyes were retouched to remove of the red of the eyes.
