Siberian Crane which was endangered and a straggler came to Chiba prefecture.
It stays at roost of Tundra Swan which comes in winter. At noon, it forage at its feeding site several km from roost.

Siberian Crane has blackish wing, but it doesn't show it easily.
I waited its open its wing. Fortunately local people with dog passed its near, so it moved for fear of dogs.

Common bird in Shimane
Grey Heron.
I stayed in Shimane between 24th to 25th January.
Chestnut-eared Bunting is a winter visitor around here that is interesting because there are no this species in Kanto where I lived, of course, it is summer visitor in Hokkaido.
Merlin was near the flock of Brambling. Did it aim them?
Yasugi-city becomes famous place for wintering site of Tundra Swan recently. But bird-ful appeared around here in this winter...
Flock of Rook stayed in Swan site.

Tomakomai to Osatu
A pair of Smew was at pond in Tomakomai Experimental Forest.
In the morning, I walked around trail in the forest.
Eurasian Nuthatches approached to me.
This photo doesn't mistake direction.
Move to Osatu-numa...
The number of Whooper Swan have a peak of migration.

After cruising
After birding cruising, I went to see land birds.
Skylarks came back to Hokkaido.
Although White-fronted Geese also came Hokkaido, it was still snow.

Birding in Shimane1
Year-end and New Year, I went to Shimane prefecture where is famous for birding spot in western Japan.
Shinji-ko and Nakaumi (link is explanation of there) are famous of southern limit of passing winter place for Bewick's Swan (Cygnus columbianus).
And Ruddy Shelduck (Tadorna ferruginea) is seen only at Hiikawa, Shimane in Japan.

In this season, four individuals came to Hiikawa.
In Shimane, there were other attractive birds, I will upload later entries.
Photos in Matue city (Bewick's Swan) and Hikawa town, Shimane prefecture, Japan.
