Yagishiri

I went to Yagishiri and Teuri island to see birds migration.

Unfortunately, migration was later than usual, not many birds were observed.

Generally, I went to only Teuri island, changing of pace, I was forward to Yagishiri island before arriving Teuri in one day, the ferry was twice in a day.

Migration of Short-tailed Shearwater began in this area, several ten thousands of this shearwater will assemble within several weeks.

The biggest owl

I observed Blakiston's Fish Owl at "Washinoyado" which was famous inn for watching this owl.

Now, the pare coming this site was in incubation period, so a male individual came to observation site twice a day.

Nemuro to see Red -faced summer plumage

I went to Nemuro at 29th April to attend sea bired cruise, but strong wind abandoned.

Instead of that, I had one more fun: flock of Red-faced Cormorant assembled for preparing bleeding at Nosappu cape the edged of Nemuro peninsula.

Arriving the spot a young individual stayed the spot.

After observation, I moved to other place to see other sea birds, but I didn't feel satisfication.
Returning to the spot, a adult stayed the same place with a Japanese Cormorant!

After observation, I moved to Rausu to see the biggest owl...

Diver

I went to Shakotan with my friends who went fishing, I attend his trip.

While they were fishing, I searched sea birds from shore.
I watched Black-throated Diver, Pacific Diver, Rhinoceros Auklet, and Steller's Sea Lion.

Flock of Black-throated Diver, one individual turned into summer plumage.

Two-barred Crossbill

Two-barred Crossbill is a very rare species in Japan.
It is observed once a few years in Hokkaido.
But it is lucky year in this season, many Two-barred Crossbills were observed around Hokkaido: Sapporo, Teuri-island, Kitami, northern Hokkaido, and Hakodate. At least over 20 individuals were observed in Hokkaido in this season.

Especially flock of Kitami was very tame to human, I went to see them to Kitami and photo of them very short distance.

To tell the true, I organized cruise in Tomakomai this day, but the weather was bad, so I  canceled the cruise and moved to Kitami the distance from my home about 300Km.

At first, I heard the flock containing 4 males, but one individual striked to glass.
When I went to the site, more one individual decreased.

They fed on corn of Mountain Pine (Pinus mugo) planted, which was low height so it can be observed easily,  in the site.

Hybrid duck and more

A Mallard*Northern Pintail hybrid stays in pond of Tomakomai Experimental Forest several years ago in winter.

Japanese Wagtail is a common species in Japan, but there is a few individuals in Hokkaido, Tomakomai Experimental forest is spot to see this species in Hokkaido.

Stellar's Sea Eagle, I think this is final observation in this season in Mukawa.
